Job summary

Physis Academy invites applications for a Teacher of Mathematics. This permanent, full-time role begins September 2026 and covers KS3–KS4 across various qualification pathways including Entry Level, Functional Skills, GCSE, and post-16 provision.

We require a Mathematics degree and QTS (or equivalent) with experience teaching KS3/KS4, preferably with SEN/SENH support. UK work eligibility and a full driving licence are essential; sponsorship is not offered.

  • Degree in Mathematics or equivalent.
  • DET (DTLLS) & QTLS or PGCE Secondary & QTS (or willingness to achieve).
  • Experience delivering KS3-KS4 Mathematics at various levels.
  • UK work eligibility and driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a broad Mathematics curriculum across KS3–KS4 with multiple qualification pathways.
  • Adapt teaching to small groups and 1:1, using trauma-informed practices.
  • Teach creatively and therapeutically to support SEN/SEMH learners.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team and act as a positive Physis representative.

Job description

Location: Physis Academy, Whitchurch SY13.

Salary: QTS - £33,000 to £36,000 per annum depending on qualification, experience, and performance. Unqualified - £23,393 to £32,000 per annum depending on qualification, experience, and performance.

Hours: Full time - 5 days per week

Working weeks Ordinarily, this will consist of 190 days (38 weeks term time), of direct contact with students, employees, or agencies, 5 days (1 week) professional development, 15 discretionary days (3 weeks) as directed by the Headteacher, which may also include direct student contact.

Phase: Secondary. KS3, KS4

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Core Purpose

To deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated Mathematics curriculum across a range of qualification pathways, including Entry Level, Functional Skills, GCSE, and post-16 provision, tailored to meet individual pupil needs.

To adapt teaching approaches for small group and 1:1 settings, using trauma-informed practice to support pupils who have experienced adversity and can exhibit challenging behaviour.

To teach creatively and therapeutically, enabling pupils with SEN/SEMH needs to engage, make progress, and build confidence and self-esteem.

To ensure pupils’ special educational needs are met through a consistent, high-quality approach aligned with the organisation’s therapeutic values and ethos.

The ability to teach additional subjects is desirable but not essential.

To work collaboratively as part of the wider school team and act as a positive role model and ambassador for Physis as a leading provider of therapeutic education.

The Requirements

Degree level or equivalent qualification in the teacher’s subject specialism - Mathematics.

DET (DTLLS) & QTLS (or willingness to achieve) OR PGCE Secondary & QTS OR Teaching Degree & QTS.

Recent and relevant experience as an effective Teacher delivering KS3-KS4 Mathematics at various levels E.g. functional skills, GCSE, Entry level.

A Level (A* - C) or nationally recognized Level 3 qualification in Mathematics.

Experience of working with KS3/ KS4 students with SEN, SEMH and other needs is desirable.

Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes

Eligibility to work in the UK

Full UK driving licence
