Tankering Technician

38 hours per week, with a rotating shift pattern: 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off

Salary:

Starting at £36,000 + 20% shift allowance per annum

Role Overview:

Southern Water is recruiting Tankering Technicians for our Falmer depot. The team uses resources efficiently to restore and maintain water supply during interruptions, minimizing impact on customers and the company.

The primary responsibilities include driving and operating tankers, connecting to network infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, and participating in operational planning and readiness testing. The role offers a competitive salary, shift payments, and benefits including vehicle use and a bonus.

Accountabilities and Time Allocation:
  1. Maintain vehicles and equipment for operational readiness
  2. Participate in response preparedness activities
  3. Drive and operate tankers safely to restore/maintain water supply
  4. Maintain records and ensure compliance with regulations
  5. Complete training and professional development
  6. Perform administrative tasks and maintain depot facilities
Person Specification:

Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience in driving and operating tankers or HGVs, with strong interpersonal skills, customer service experience, and knowledge of health and safety regulations. Ability to manage stakeholders, plan, and work under pressure is essential.

Qualifications and Skills:
Essential:
  • Full, valid driving license (category CE), with no more than 6 penalty points
  • Full Driver CPC qualification
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts
Desirable:
  • Experience in water/wastewater industry
  • Network-trained and EUSR Water Hygiene Card
  • Additional driver training qualifications
  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of Transport Law and Working Time Directive
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Cloud
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team skills
