Salary: Starting salary of £36,000 + 20% shift allowance per annum.

Role Overview:

Southern Water is recruiting Tankering Technicians for our Falmer depot. The team uses resources, primarily tankers, to restore and maintain water supply during interruptions, minimizing impacts on customers and regulatory compliance.

The primary role involves driving and operating tankers to connect into existing infrastructure, ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained, and participating in operational planning and testing. The position offers a competitive salary, shift payments, and benefits including vehicle access and potential bonuses.

Accountabilities and Estimated Time Spent:

  1. Maintain vehicles and equipment in operational condition.
  2. Participate in response preparedness activities.
  3. Drive and operate tankers safely to restore/maintain supply.
  4. Maintain records and ensure compliance with regulations.
  5. Complete training and professional development.
  6. Handle administrative tasks and maintain depot facilities.

Person Specification:

Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience driving and operating tankers or HGVs. Strong stakeholder management, planning, and customer service skills are essential. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and vehicle maintenance is required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Full, valid CE category driving license; a clean license with no more than 6 penalty points; no DG, DR, DD, or IN convictions.
  • Willing to work rotational shifts.
  • Experience in water/wastewater industry preferred.
  • Network training and EUSR Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card).
  • Additional driver training qualifications are a plus.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of Transport Law, Working Time Directive, Driver Hours rules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Cloud applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle high-pressure situations.
