Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a Field Tail Lift Engineer based near Colchester to service and repair tail lift, double deck, and related equipment on customer sites. You will optimize van stock, perform daily safety checks, and ensure adherence to ISO9002 while maintaining high customer service standards.

The role requires independent work, a clean driving licence, and willingness to travel extensively, including on-call and some overtime.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English.
• NVQ qualification in hydraulics/electrics (desirable) or equivalent experience working to manufacturer standards.
• Experienced Tail Lift and Commercial Engineer.
• Commercial experience working with electro‑mechanical systems, including engines, compressors, and hydraulic equipment.
• Skilled in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems.
• Welding certification.
• STE/Weight Test certification.
• Able to work independently in a safe and professional manner, maintaining customer units and company property to the highest standards.
• Clean driving Licence.
• IT literate (Microsoft Office), able to use a palmtop computer (with training).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and relationship-building skills.
• Methodical and systematic approach to work.
• Attention to detail.
• Commitment to high standards of customer service and professionalism.
• Punctuality, efficient and target driven.

Responsibilities

• Servicing and repair of tail lift, double deck, VBG, Shutter door equipment.
• Optimize and maintain engineer van stock to enhance service delivery.
• Ensure relevant safety checks on the company van daily.
• Maintain knowledge to meet ISO9002 standards.
• Liaise with service center on job start, completion, downtime, and purchase orders.
• Complete paperwork and online PDA entries for central control and invoicing.
• Ensure adherence to company procedures, safety standards, and ISO9002 requirements.
• Promote and generate business with existing or potential customers.
• Provide technical help to customers and TK personnel as required.
• Attend training and e-learning courses for development.
• Perform other duties aligned with the role.
