Job summary

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking a Street Cleansing Operative to remove litter and detritus from streets and open spaces in Willerby and surrounding areas. You will work alone or as part of a team, following pre-determined schedules, using street cleansing vehicles, brushes, and manual tools.

A full driving licence with C1 entitlement is essential, and you must take pride in maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Full driving licence essential with entitlement to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles (C1).
• Ability to work on own initiative and deliver quality work to required standards.
• Strong communication and customer care skills are essential for this post.

Responsibilities

• Remove litter and detritus from streets, open spaces and other land to a high standard, individually or as part of a team.
• Work to predetermined schedules and standards set by the Council.
• Maintain and check equipment daily and report environmental defects.
• Operate street cleansing vehicles, brushes, barrows, blowers and pedestrian controlled sweepers as required.
• Move from Willerby depot to the Beverley depot in February 2027.

The job itself

To undertake, either individually or as part of a team to remove all litter and detritus from streets, open spaces and other associated land to a high standard. To work in accordance with pre-determined work schedules and standards determined by the Council.

A full driving licence is essential with the entitlement to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles (driving licence class C1).

To form part of a team of street cleansing operatives, or to work alone, to ensure ERYC's towns, streets and open spaces are cleaned to a high standard. Utilising a range of plant, tools and equipment, e.g. Street cleansing vehicles, brush, barrow, blower and pedestrian controlled mechanical sweeper.

Maintain and take responsibility for your equipment, which includes daily checks and cleaning your equipment, when appropriate. Participate in the Council's initiatives to improve the street scene environment e.g. report environmental defects.

The ability to work on your own initiative, along with having good communication and good customer care skills are essential for this post

The role is based at the Willerby depot and moving to the new Beverley depot February 2027 .
