Job summary

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking a Sweeper/Driver 1 to join the Environmental services, street cleansing team. You will remove litter and detritus from streets and open spaces to a high standard, following pre-determined schedules.

A full driving licence with C1 entitlement is essential, with the ability to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles. The role may involve working in all weathers, starting early, and assisting in related refuse and bulky collections as needed.

The job itself

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Environmental services, street cleansing team for a Sweeper / Driver 1.

To undertake, either individually or as part of a team to remove all litter and detritus from streets, open spaces and other associated land to a high standard. To work in accordance with pre-determined work schedules and standards determined by the Council.

A full driving licence is essential with the entitlement to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles (driving licence class C1).

To form part of a team of street cleansing operatives, or to work alone, to ensure ERYC's towns, streets and open spaces are cleaned to a high standard. Utilising a range of plant, tools and equipment, e.g. Street cleansing vehicles, brush, barrow, blower and pedestrian controlled mechanical sweeper.

Maintain and take responsibility for your equipment, which includes daily checks and cleaning your equipment, when appropriate. Participate in the Council’s initiatives to improve the street scene environment, e.g. report environmental defects.

The ability to work on your own initiative, along with having good communication and good customer care skills are essential for this post. A suitable level of fitness is required to cope with the demands of the role. With the ability to work in all weathers and the ability to start work early mornings. There is also a requirement to assist in all roles within the service area, including refuse collection, Bulky collections and bin deliveries.

You would also be on a shift pattern where you would be contractually obliged to work bank holidays, weekends and the Christmas period should your shift pattern dictate

The role is based at the Market Weighton depot, so good local knowledge would be useful
