Job summary

Breedon Group plc is seeking a reliable Surfacing Operative to join our surfacing team in the UK. In this hands-on role you will support road surfacing and highway maintenance projects, laying and finishing asphalt safely and efficiently as part of a skilled crew.

Night shifts are required and travel between sites is expected. This role outdoors requires teamwork, attention to safety, and a flexible approach to work on different sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laying, raking, leveling, and finishing asphalt materials
• Operate surfacing plant, tools and equipment
• Site preparation and general labouring before, during, and after surfacing
• Collaborate with Foreperson and surfacing squad to complete projects safely
• Perform routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, PPE
• Follow site instructions and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report safety concerns or incidents promptly
• Work across different sites and shifts, including night work

Position Summary:

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Surfacing Operative to join our surfacing team. In this hands-on role, you will support the delivery of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects, working as part of a skilled crew to lay and finish asphalt safely and efficiently.

This role involves working outdoors, travelling to sites, and operating as part of a team to ensure work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety. Nightshift working is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials
• Support the operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties before, during, and after surfacing works
• Work closely with the Foreperson and wider surfacing squad to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE
• Follow site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential

• Previous experience in surfacing, construction, highways, or a similar environment
