Job summary

Breedon Group plc is seeking an experienced Surfacing Supervisor to lead our West Coast surfacing team in road surfacing and highway maintenance projects. This hands-on leadership role requires supervising operations, coordinating activities with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring work is delivered safely and to high quality standards.

In this role, you will supervise crews, plan daily activities, and liaise with customers while promoting a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supervising surfacing or highway maintenance operations.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements in construction.
  • CSCS card held.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and site locations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate surfacing operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
  • Lead and motivate surfacing operatives, promoting high standards of workmanship and teamwork.
  • Plan daily activities and allocate labour, plant, materials, and equipment efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company procedures at all times.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain effective communication throughout projects.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure surfacing works meet contract specifications and customer expectations.
  • Carry out site inspections, risk assessments, and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
  • Conduct routine checks on plant, equipment, and PPE, reporting any defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Complete site documentation, including daily records, safety documentation, and project reports.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly.
  • Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required.

Surfacing Supervisor

Location: Dunbeg, Oban

Description

Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced and motivated Surfacing Supervisor to lead our West Coast surfacing team in the delivery of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects. In this hands‑on leadership role, you will be responsible for supervising surfacing operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with operational teams, clients, and stakeholders, you will coordinate site activities, manage resources, and promote a strong safety culture. This role involves working outdoors, travelling to sites, and leading teams across a variety of projects. Nightshift working is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate surfacing operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Proven experience supervising surfacing or highway maintenance operations
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements within the construction industry
  • CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible approach to working hours and site locations

Desirable

  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification
  • CSCS
  • Experience working on local authority, National Highways, or major infrastructure surfacing contracts
