Job summary

Breedon Group is seeking a reliable Paver Operative to join the surfacing team across the Highlands and Moray. You will operate asphalt paving machinery, lay and finish asphalt, and work as part of a skilled crew outdoors on road surfacing and highway maintenance projects.

The role involves travel to sites across the region with night shifts required. Full training will be provided and there are opportunities for development within Breedon.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laying, raking, leveling, and finishing asphalt
• Support operation of surfacing plant, tools and equipment
• Carry out site prep and general labouring duties
• Work with Foreperson and surfacing crew to complete projects safely
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant and PPE
• Follow site instructions and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report safety concerns or incidents promptly
• Work across different sites and shifts, including night work when required

Position Overview:
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Paver Operative to join our surfacing team across the Highlands and Moray. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for operating and supporting the use of asphalt paving machinery, working as part of a skilled surfacing crew to lay and finish asphalt safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The role involves working outdoors on a variety of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects, travelling to sites across the region, and collaborating closely with colleagues to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards. Nightshift working is a key requirement of this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials
• Support the operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties before, during, and after surfacing works
• Work closely with the Foreperson and wider surfacing squad to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE
• Follow site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

• Good teamwork and communication skills
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
• Commitment to working safely and following procedures
• Flexible approach to working hours and site locations
• Previous paver experience

Desirable

• CSCS card
• Full UK driving licence
• Previous experience in surfacing, construction, highways, or a similar environment
