Job summary

Breedon Group in Inverness is seeking two Surfacing Operatives to join our surfacing team. You will support road surfacing and highway maintenance across the Inverness area, laying and finishing asphalt safely and efficiently as part of a skilled crew.

This site-based role involves working outdoors, travelling to project locations, and night shifts. Full training will be provided, with opportunities for career progression and a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laying asphalt, raking, levelling and finishing.

• Maintain a clean, safe work area and report issues promptly.
• Adapt to different sites and shifts, including night work.

Position Overview

We are looking for two reliable and motivated Surfacing Operatives to join our surfacing team based in Inverness. In this hands-on role, you will support the delivery of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects across the Inverness area and surrounding locations, working as part of a skilled crew to lay and finish asphalt safely and efficiently.

This is a site-based role that involves working outdoors, travelling to various project locations, and operating as part of a team to ensure work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety. Nightshift working is a requirement of this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials
• Support the operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties before, during, and after surfacing works
• Work closely with the Foreperson and wider surfacing squad to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE
• Follow site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

• Good teamwork and communication skills
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
• Commitment to working safely and following procedures
• Flexible approach to working hours and site locations

Desirable

• CSCS card
• Full UK driving licence
• Previous experience in surfacing, construction, highways, or a similar environment
