Job description

Permanent

Full or Part-Time

Dorchester Young People’s Service opened in August 2017. Based in Fordington, Dorchester, the service provides accommodation and tailored support to help young people acquire Independent Living skills.

We are now seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Support Worker to deliver person-centred, strengths-based support to our residents, helping them to achieve their goals and become as independent as possible.

We offer this role as either a Full-Time or Part-Time – 2 x 20 hours per week.

You will manage a caseload of customers throughout their journey, enabling them to articulate their aspirations and realize their potential. Responsibilities include managing referrals, conducting interviews and assessments, notifying potential customers of outcomes, inducting new customers into the service, and delivering quality, outcome-focused support sessions both one-to-one and in groups.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) — desirable but not essential.

  • Have a genuine desire and passion to work with vulnerable young people with support needs.

  • Be willing to learn on the job.

  • Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be able to work under pressure and use your own initiative.

  • Work positively and creatively.

  • Be IT literate, comfortable with Microsoft Office packages.

  • Previous experience is useful but not essential. Knowledge of housing and benefits advice is also desirable.

Appointment to this role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, references, and possession of a valid Right to Work document.
