Job summary

Royal Mencap Society in Lowestoft is recruiting Support Workers to help people live happy, independent lives across two nearby services. You will assist with meals, domestic tasks, personal care and daily activities, with full training provided for tasks such as medication and PEG feeding.

Job description

We are looking for Support Workers to join our friendly team in Lowestoft supporting people to live happy, fulfilling and independent lives.

This role is split across two services that are just a 5 minute walk from each other, one of our services supports seven people and part of your role will be to help with everyday life at home, this will include preparing meals, domestic tasks such as cleaning and laundry, sorting through post and helping to book appointments and more. You will also support with personal care, manual handling, medication and PEG feeding. Don’t worry if you haven’t done these things before as full training and support will be provided.

Life at this service is all about getting out and enjoying the local community. The people we support love shopping trips, going out for tea and cake, visiting the local garden centre, seaside trips, gardening, arts and crafts, cinema visits, wellbeing walks and spending time with family and friends.

Our second service supports four ladies who enjoy a creative and homely environment. They love making collages, arts and crafts, colouring, painting, movie nights, visiting day centres and simply enjoying each other’s company at home. You will provide a similar level of support here including personal care, manual handling and medication, while encouraging the ladies to enjoy the activities and experiences that matter to them.

No two days will be the same, and that’s what makes this such a rewarding role. Whether you are helping someone prepare their favourite meal, supporting them on a trip to the seaside, getting creative with arts and crafts or simply sharing a cup of tea and a chat, you will be making a real difference to someone’s life.

We can offer full-time, part-time and relief contracts, with shifts worked on a rota between 7am and 10pm. There are also sleep-in and waking night shifts, so a degree of flexibility is required.
