Job summary

Royal Mencap Society in York is seeking dedicated Support Workers for a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours). You will support a diverse group of people with varying abilities, promoting independence and community involvement, with training provided.

Shifts vary across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. A valid UK driving license is essential. DBS checks and references are required, with excellent benefits including 24 days holiday pro rata and employee discounts.

  • Experience in care sector is an advantage but not required.
  • Manual license drivers are essential for this service.

Responsibilities

  • Help people live independently with budgeting, bills, household tasks and meal planning.
  • Provide high level of personal care as required, including daily routines and support with medications.
  • Support inclusion by helping individuals access local community activities and social events.
  • Maintain excellent communication and build meaningful relationships with the people we support.

We are looking for Support Workers to join our service in York on a permanent, full-time basis (37.5 hours)

We are looking to grow our team of dedicated, caring and enthusiastic support workers. You will work with a diverse group of people, each withunique abilities and needs. You will be expected toprovidean outstanding level of support that willhelp to ensurethepeoplewe supportlivea happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting people to live independently– budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
  • Excellent communication skills and Relationship building– supporting thepeople we supportto understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
  • Community & Social Inclusion-supporting individuals to access andparticipatein their local community andsocial events to promote life skills and individuality.
  • Personal care- helping people to get ready forthe day. Thismay include prompting the people we support to take their medication andassistingwithbathing,showeringand using thebathroom. Notall Support Worker roles includehigh levelsof personal care.

As each service is different, so too are the requirements and shift patterns.Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and bank holidays so flexibility is key. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!

What we're looking for:

  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Manual license drivers are essential for this service.
  • Experience within the care sector is an advantage but not a necessity as full training will be provided.

Mencap holds a Home Office sponsorship licence; however, due to current restrictions on our allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must therefore have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
