Job summary

Nottingham Community Housing Association is seeking a Support Worker in Sutton-in-Ashfield to help residents live independently in a registered care home setting. You will be involved in personal care, activities, and daily living support with full training provided.

The Service

Ashland Road West is a registered care home located in Sutton-in-Ashfield. We provide person-centred care to ten service users with moderate to profound learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication needs and complex healthcare related requirements. We support people with behaviours that challenge and provide full training to our colleagues to be confident in their supporting abilities

The Role

As a Support Worker, your role will involve helping service users to live as independently as possible. The life of a Learning Disability Support Worker includes supporting service users with personal care, day trips out, playing games, sensory experiences and even watching the odd movie!

In addition to this, some of your main duties will include but are not limited to:

• Supporting with visits to health appointments, day trips and holidays
• Administrating medication
• Providing emotional support
• Supporting and encouraging engagement in learning opportunities
• High levels of personal care including washing, bathing, dressing and feeding service users - full training provided
• Assisting service users with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning and laundry
• Using hoists, wheelchairs and other equipment as required by each service user - full training provided
• Supporting individuals with challenging behaviour (full training provided)

Please note that due to the needs of our service users, there are high levels of moving & handling and risk management involved in the role; as such, you will need to be willing and able to undertake these duties.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Be willing and eager to learn and attend all the training required (some of the training is at Head office which is in Clifton)
• Be able to handle sometimes challenging situations and be resilient
• Have the ability to read, follow and record written instructions and information accurately, and communicate in a clear, friendly and professional manner
• Be a competent IT user - includes using Microsoft Word, sending emails and updating records in systems (training for our systems will be provided)

Working Hours and Shift patterns

You will ideally be able to work full time 37 hours per week (but no less than 30 hours per week) working 5 days out of 7 on a rotating shift basis. Our home is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, to meet the needs of our wonderful service users. It is essential that you are able to work various shifts on a rota basis including on bank holidays and weekends:

• Early - 7am to 3pm,
• Mid - 12.00 noon to 9.15pm
• Late - 1.30pm to 9.30pm,
• Waking nights - 8.45pm to 7.15am - A bonus is also paid for waking night shifts!

Travelling to Ashland Road West

Due to its location, local candidates or candidates who can drive are highly desirable, as public transport involves a 10-minute walk to the care home from the nearest bus stop during the early hours of the morning (meaning, it is unreliable to use for morning shifts starting at 7.00). Our home is an 18-minute drive from Mansfield city centre.
