Job summary

Cartrefi Cymru Co-operative in Newport/Caerphilly is seeking a committed Support Worker to help empower people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling, community-based lives. You will support everyday decisions, accompany activities, and foster independence with a person-centred approach.

The role covers part-time and full-time hours with weekends and sleep-ins, offering permanent employment, training opportunities, and a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support individuals in making choices and setting personal goals.
  • Assist with daily activities, personal care with dignity and respect.
  • Help with managing finances, housing and daily routines.
  • Support participation in structured activities to build confidence and skills.
  • Transport individuals to appointments and activities when needed (with mileage reimbursement).

Job description

As a Support Worker in Newport / Caerphilly, you’ll help make the everyday remarkable for the people we support.

We are dedicated to supporting those with learning disabilities to live a fulfilled and enriched life in the community, as a Support Worker, you can play a vital role in this.

Hours

We have both part time (minimum 10 hours per week) and full time hours (maximum 40 hours per week), please speak to us about the hours you are looking to do. Your shift pattern will include weekends and sleep-ins

Salary

£13.59per hour and our sleep-in shifts at £60 per night and our travel expenses is paid 55p per mile

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll actively support individuals in making their own choices and set their own goals — whether it’s everyday decisions like what to wear, eat, or do, or something bigger such as where to live, how to manage their finances, or where to go on holiday.

As a trusted Support Worker, you'll empower people to follow through on these choices, including taking part in structured activities that build confidence and develop new skills. You’ll also offer practical support to help them meet responsibilities like paying bills, maintaining their homes, being good neighbours, and staying connected with friends and family.

Your goal is to make everyday remarkable through enhancing well-being and focusing on the small, meaningful moments that bring joy and purpose. By offering this kind of person-centred support every day, this truly is a fun and rewarding role for the right person.

No experience required as full training is provided. We’d love to hear from you if you:
  • have patience and empathy
  • can support a person with their intimate personal care with respect and dignity
  • have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • are able to speak on behalf of others as well as to a range of professional people
  • have good written skills and the ability to record events with empathy and meaning
  • full driving licence - essential for transporting individuals to appointments and activities
  • have access to your own car and happy to use this for transporting people we support to and from activities as well as obtaining business insurance for your vehicle for which we pay 55p per mile to cover this
