Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Springout House Ltd: 16 Plus Semi-Independent 24/7 provision.

POST: Support Worker

LOCATION: Barking and Dagenham

RESPONSIBLE TO: Placement Manager

SHIFT PATTERN: 3 1/2 days on and 3 1/2 days off

Day Shift: 8am - 8pm, Night Shift: 8pm - 8am (Sleep In). You will work 11 hours a day with a 1-hour break.

JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking a Support Worker experienced in supporting young people aged 16-18 in semi-independent accommodation. You will be a key person ensuring their safety, supporting their independence, and helping them feel happy and supported. You will be part of a welcoming team of Wellbeing Workers. The role requires proactive, positive, approachable, non-judgemental individuals with a good sense of humor, capable of making quick decisions and handling challenging situations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Delivering Service: Provide empathetic support, including one-to-one and group support, assist with independent living skills, budgeting, college attendance, and support key sessions.
  2. Maintain an inclusive environment, liaise with social workers and other professionals, and prioritize the needs of the young people.
  3. Support young people's goals through communication, motivation, and coaching, working within policies and professional boundaries.
  4. Encourage engagement with local services and facilitate access to community resources.
  5. Promote understanding and management of mental wellbeing and physical health factors.
  6. Participate in assessments, reviews, and referrals, and keep accurate records.
  7. Protect individuals from abuse and harm, involve them in service development, and support team collaboration.
  8. Engage in community events, adhere to lone working procedures, and contribute to service improvement.
  9. Ensure health and safety compliance, including participating in drills and reporting concerns.
TEAMWORK & DEVELOPMENT

Work collaboratively, undertake induction and training, participate in meetings, and engage in ongoing development activities.

DELIVERING EQUALITY

Respect and promote diversity, rights, and needs of service users, working within the organization's equality and diversity policies.

OTHER DUTIES

Respond flexibly to work hours, adhere to policies, and participate in periodic reviews and updates of the job role.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least one year of experience in a children’s home or 16+ accommodation, or working with young people with challenging behaviors, OR personal experience with youth services, OR three years in social care support roles.
  • Knowledge of support needs, legislation, safeguarding, child development, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintain records, and communicate effectively.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Children’s Social Care or equivalent.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Full-time, 37 hours/week, £12.21/hour, annual salary approximately £20,049. Support young people aged 16-18, fostering independence, school attendance, and community engagement.
