Discovery Inc. is seeking a caring support worker to help individuals with autism, learning disabilities and anxiety in the Chard area. The role is hands-on, assisting with personal care, daily routines, health and wellbeing, and encouraging independent living.

You will work with a small team to support community outings, meals, and meaningful activities, including holidays. Previous care experience not required, just the right values, patience and reliability.

Job description

Our welcoming home in Chard is home to four fantastic people, three gentlemen and one lady, who each have their own personalities, interests, and goals. You'll support people with autism, learning disabilities, and anxiety, taking the time to understand their unique communication styles and helping them live the lives they choose. This is a hands-on role, providing support with personal care, daily routines, and maintaining good health and wellbeing. You'll also support one person who uses a wheelchair when out in the community and another who uses a walking frame outdoors. Life here is busy, active, and fun! Whether it's helping people stay connected with family and friends, enjoying days out, cooking favourite meals, or supporting someone on their next holiday adventure, you'll be part of creating meaningful moments every day. One gentleman loves visiting Paris every couple of years, while everyone enjoys a classic British holiday in a city or by the coast. You'll encourage independence by involving people in cooking, household tasks, and everyday decision‑making. With Chard town centre just a five‑minute walk away, you'll often be out and about supporting people to enjoy all their local community has to offer.

Shifts are 7:00am - 2:00pm and 2:00pm - 10:00pm

You don't need previous experience in care, just the right values. We're looking for someone who is kind, patient, reliable, and passionate about helping others live fulfilling lives. You'll enjoy building meaningful relationships, celebrating achievements, and supporting people to be as independent as possible. Whether you're helping someone learn a new skill, enjoy a day out, or simply have a great day, you'll bring positivity and encouragement to everything you do. You'll be a great team player, willing to learn, and confident communicating with the people we support, their families, and colleagues. Being calm, adaptable, and able to use your initiative will help you thrive in this role. Basic IT skills are required, as you'll use digital systems to complete training and record support notes.
