About the role

Welcome to Geen house — a vibrant, friendly home where no two days are ever the same. Here, you’ll support six amazing adults aged 40-60, each with their own interests, sense of humour and unique personalities. The people you’ll support have a range of needs including epilepsy, Down’s syndrome and autism, and they appreciate patient, kind and enthusiastic support with all aspects of daily living. Four people use wheelchairs and require hoisting, and you’ll play a key part in helping everyone feel comfortable, included and supported.

Life at Green House is full of fun, variety and meaningful experiences. We all enjoy different things, so your role will be supporting us to live the lives we choose.

You might join us for hydrotherapy sessions in the pool, support a gentleman on his electric-assist bike, or accompany us to animal therapy where we visit goats and chickens. We also enjoy discos, theatre trips, football matches, church services, shopping, café visits and spending time out in our local community.

We love having things to look forward to, including holidays to places like Centre Parcs, where we can relax, have fun and make great memories. If you’re enthusiastic, caring and enjoy getting involved, you’ll fit right in helping us do the things we love most.

You’ll be part of a warm, supportive team focused on active support, meal preparation, day-to-day living, and helping people make the most of every day

Shifts run between 7am and 10pm, plus 1 sleep In per week and alternate weekends

About Discovery

At Discovery, we’re proud to support people across Somerset and Cornwall to live the lives they choose. When you join us, you’re becoming part of a caring, committed team that puts people first in everything we do. You’ll make a real difference every day, and we’ll support you with excellent training, development opportunities and a wide range of colleague benefits to help you grow.

There’s no “typical” Support Worker here — our teams are made up of people of all ages, backgrounds and life experiences. Whether you’re new to care, changing careers or bringing years of experience, you’ll be welcomed and valued.

What brings us all together is a shared passion for helping people live well, learn new skills and build independence. Our Support Workers don’t see their role as just a job — it’s the chance to brighten someone’s day, champion their choices and be part of moments that truly matter

About you

To thrive as a Support Worker in this home, you will be someone who is compassionate, reliable, and genuinely motivated to make a positive difference in people’s lives. You don’t need previous experience in social care, but you do need the right values, the willingness to learn, and the confidence to support individuals to live the life they choose.

You’ll bring strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with the people you support, their families, and your colleagues. A good Support Worker here is patient, calm under pressure, and able to adapt to different situations with empathy and professionalism. You’ll also be proactive, observant, and comfortable encouraging people to develop their independence and try new things.

Basic IT skills are important, as you’ll use digital systems for recording notes, completing training, and staying connected as part of the team. You’ll show a commitment to your own learning and development, embracing the training we provide to ensure you feel confident and equipped in your role.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who brings positivity, kindness, and respect to every interaction, helping create a safe, supportive, and happy environment for the people who live here.

Training, Development and Career Opportunities

Working for Discovery is rewarding, meaningful and offers genuine career progression. Within your first 12 weeks, we’ll fund and support you to complete the Care Certificate, which is essential for anyone working in health and social care.

Through our City & Guilds accredited qualification centre, you can work toward diplomas and recognised qualifications — and in some cases earn a financial bonus on completion.

Our Learning Connect online platform gives you access to extensive training pathways so you can continue developing your skills throughout your career with us.
