Milestones Trust is seeking a Support Worker to enable adults with learning difficulties and visual impairments to lead active, fulfilling lives. You will support daily choices, help develop social and life skills, and enable community engagement.

Role involves driving the service vehicle and building relationships with families and the wider community. Training and progression opportunities are offered within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence required and willingness to drive the service vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Encourage people to make day-to-day choices and develop health, self-image and independence.
• Support people to build relationships and keep in touch with family and friends.
• Help people develop social and life skills to maximise independence.
• Assist people to access local and wider community and maintain community presence.
• Support with personal finances, medications and planning new opportunities.
• Communicate effectively with staff, managers, people we support and stakeholders.

Please note that for this role a full UK driving licence is required and the successful candidate must be willing to drive the service vehicle to support people to access the community. Furber Road is a 5 bedded service in the St. George area that supports people with learning difficulties and visual impairments, whilst also applying Positive Behavioural Support principals. The service is lively and the people we support enjoy an active and fulfilling lifestyle. It would be desirable that you have some experience of working with people with learning difficulties or visual impairment, but not essential. As a Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

• To encourage and enable people we support to make day-to-day choices and major life decisions, signposting as appropriate, and to support them to develop a positive self-image and maintain good health.
• To support people using the service to develop relationships and maintain contact with family and friends.
• To provide people with the agreed necessary support to maximise their independence and to develop social skills and life skills.
• To support people to access their local and wider community and maintain a presence in their community.
• To support people to manage their personal finances, medication and plan new and exciting opportunities in their community.
  Have strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the wider staff team, managers, the people we support and a range of stakeholders.
• Have a good value base and flexibility around working patterns.
• Hold a full driving licence and must be willing to drive the service vehicle to support people to access the community.
