Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Swindon is seeking a practical, reliable Support Staff member to join our team on a temporary basis for 5-6 weeks. The role focuses on hands-on workshop activity to support young people as they develop practical engineering and design skills.

Support Staff - Workshop Technician / Learning Support

Location: Swindon

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full Time, Term Time (plus inset days if applicable)

Duration: Temporary post for 5-6 weeks

We are seeking a practical, enthusiastic, and reliable Support Staff member to join our team on a temporary basis for 5-6 weeks. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a hands‑on environment and wants to play an important role in supporting young people as they develop practical engineering and design skills.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a workshop environment and, ideally, have experience with woodworking, basic manufacturing processes, or similar practical skills. Whether you have worked in education, industry, or a trade, we are looking for someone who is organised, safety‑conscious, and enjoys supporting others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain workshop equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Support teachers and students during practical lessons.
  • Ensure the workshop remains clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with woodworking, manufacturing, engineering, and practical project preparation.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and stock control of workshop resources.
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and professional learning environment.
  • Support students in developing practical skills where appropriate.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
  • Is confident working in a workshop environment.
  • Has experience with woodworking, carpentry, engineering, manufacturing, or similar practical trades (desirable).
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety procedures when using tools and machinery.
  • Is organised, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Has excellent communication skills and enjoys working with young people.
  • Is flexible, reliable, and willing to support a busy technical department.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is welcomed but not essential.
