Job summary

Griffon Marine Ltd in Southampton is seeking a Production/Department Manager to coordinate production activities and deliver projects to specification, on time and within budget. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, drive lean practices, and ensure safe, compliant workshop operations.

You will oversee planning, monitor KPIs, maintain quality and safety standards, and foster continuous improvement while supporting customers and suppliers across the UK and overseas when required.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated process management experience within an engineering environment.
  • Technical knowledge in relevant engineering subjects; understanding of marine systems is beneficial.
  • Commercial experience and knowledge of delivering engineering products and services.
  • Ability to coach and develop other members of staff.
  • Numeracy and analytical skills, with the ability to report concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with customers, suppliers and staff at all levels.
  • Experience carrying out complete boat refits, repairs, upgrades and refurbishment projects.

  • Work with other managers and team leaders to achieve the objectives of the business and department and promote the company values.
  • Work to continuously improve personal and overall business performance and quality.

Job description

Objectives

  • Command the workshop resources to deliver on the plan
  • Drive lean/efficient, safe and compliant workshop practice
  • Drive continuous improvement by internal development and by suggestions to Engineering/PMP&C
Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of vessel maintenance across GRP, aluminium and steel craft.
  • Practical experience in one or more marine trades, including mechanical, electrical, fabrication, composites, hydraulics or marine systems installation.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to marine systems and equipment.
  • Experience working on commercial, military, patrol, workboat or specialist marine craft.
  • Familiarity with marine engines, propulsion systems, steering systems and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, maintenance manuals and engineering specifications.
  • Experience planning and executing repair work while maintaining quality, safety and schedule requirements.
  • Understanding of marine safety standards, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary support team.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel and support customer vessels at locations within the UK and overseas when required.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Recognised marine engineering, mechanical or electrical qualification.
  • Welding, fabrication, composite repair or hydraulic system experience.
  • Forklift, crane, lifting or slinging certification.
  • Experience working in a defence, commercial marine or shipyard environment.
  • Knowledge of Griffon Marine Ltd products and service offerings
