Job summary

Marine Services in Cardiff is seeking a Boat Yard Operative and Marine Technician to support the refit and repair team on a variety of projects, from small specialist jobs to larger builds.

The role includes hands-on boat yard tasks, laminating, sanding, mirror polishing, and spray work, plus installation of electrical systems, NMEA integration, and full re-wires. It requires focus on quality, stock control, and safety, with a permanent, full-time contract.

Qualifications

• Must have demonstrable experience in boatyards and hand-on trades.
• Qualifications in boat building and electrical systems are preferred.
• Experience with lifting machinery is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist refit and repair teams to deliver high-quality projects.
• Perform laminating, sanding, fairing, and polishing tasks.
• Carry out electrical installs, re-wires, and system fault finding.
• Support stock control, tool maintenance, and workshop cleanliness.
• Assist with interior fit-out, cabinet making, and spray applications.

Main Purpose of Job

Assisting refit and repair team to deliver projects of high quality small and large.

Main Duties

The following are the main duties of the role

• Colour Matching
• Laminating
• Small Mould Fabrication
• Sanding, fairing, and polishing
• Brush, roller and spray application

Electrical

• New navigation system installs
• NMEA integration
• Systems such as chargers, pumps, bow thrusters etc
• Full re-wires
• Fault finding
• FlexiTeek and teak decking fabrication and install
• Plug making for GRP and FRP moulds
• Interior fit out and cabinet making
• Surface preparation
• Cutting of fibres and core materials
• Wet lay and vacuum bagging
• Boat building and small parts
• Follow laminate schedule
• Ensuring workshop is clean and tidy
• Adhering to Health and Safety protocols
• Keeping managers informed of broken or missing equipment
• Stock control and tool maintenance
• Moving boats as directed
• Quality control General
• Supporting other team members as required
• Administration e.g. completing timesheets
