Job summary

GFSL is seeking a Mechanical Supervisor (Plumbing) for HMP Swaleside to lead a team of trades and ensure safe, reliable building services in a secure environment. The role covers heating, water and building services with a focus on safety, planning and effective team leadership.

The post requires NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and extensive plumbing experience in FM or secure settings. Competitive benefits apply, including holidays and wellbeing schemes.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years' experience, ideally within FM environment and/ or secure environment.
• Experience with commercial or industrial heating, water or building services.
• Familiar with Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements.
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• A rounded knowledge of risk and compliance and demonstrable planning & project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead plumbers and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable services at HMP Swaleside.
• Coordinate tasks across trades and supervise daily operations.
• Ensure compliance with water regulation, Legionella L8 and safety standards.
• Plan and manage maintenance programs, liaising with prison staff and contractors.

Salary: £48,412.56

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time, 39hrs

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Supervisor to join our team at HMP Swaleside, a CATEGORY B & Male prison. As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and lead experienced and passionate colleagues who vary from Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, to Cleaners, and Administrators, and others, who are all dedicated to making a positive difference, providing a safe and secure environment for all.

We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Supervisor with one of the following NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications and combination of skills:

• BPEC Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating

• City & Guilds 5962 - Certificate in Plumbing (Advanced Craft)
• City & Guilds 6019 - Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing)
• City & Guilds 6288-31 - Heating and Ventilating Craftsperson (Industrial & Commercial)
• ETA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
• City & Guilds 6188 - Heating and Ventilating

• Familiar with, and ability to, work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.

Future Plans

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
