Job summary

Gov Facilities Services Limited (GFSL) seeks a Mechanical Supervisor (Plumbing) to lead on-site plumbing and building services at HMP Swaleside. You’ll drive safe operation of heating, water, and ventilation systems while coordinating maintenance tasks and contractor work.

The role requires extensive plumbing qualifications and at least five years of FM or secure-environment experience, with strong health & safety discipline and people management skills.

Qualifications

• EAL Diploma in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent recognised plumbing qualifications.
• Extensive City & Guilds plumbing qualifications covering domestic and industrial services.
• Experience with Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 control measures.
• Strong health and safety knowledge with practical site experience.
• Five plus years in FM, secure, or healthcare/military settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise plumbing and building services teams on site at HMP Swaleside.
• Ensure safe, compliant operation of heating, water and ventilation systems.
• Coordinate maintenance tasks, plan works and manage contractors if required.
• Uphold risk, compliance and quality standards across facilities.
• Promote rehabilitation and a safe environment for staff, prisoners and visitors.

• A minimum of five years' experience, ideally within an FM environment and/ or secure environment, military, health or similar sectors.
• Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water or building service systems.
• Familiar with, and ability to, work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• A rounded knowledge of risk and compliance and demonstrable planning & project management skills.

Future Plans.

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
