Job summary

Network Rail in the North West is seeking an experienced supervisor to establish and maintain safety arrangements for staff and contractors, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards.

You will lead a multi-skilled team, manage resources, monitor staff competence, and report progress to stakeholders, promoting safety and continuous improvement in a busy rail environment. This permanent, full-time role offers a rewarding career with generous leave and pension benefits.

Qualifications

• Trained and where appropriate, qualified in the relevant trade.
• Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
• Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work.
• Experience and ability to lead, motivate and direct a multi-skilled team.
• Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 electrical wiring regulations.

• Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions.
• Undertake work and associated duties in accordance with standards as directed.
• Direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
• Supervise and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
• Deliver and maintain an effective service to customers and key stakeholders.
• Prepare work and resource specifications, scopes of work, and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
• Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.

About the role

• Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.

• Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
• Supervise and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
• Deliver and maintain an effective service to customers and key stakeholders.
• Prepare work and resource specifications, scopes of work, and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
• Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
• Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
• Manage the allocation of resources.
• Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.
• Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.
• Contribute to your own development and that of others.
• Manage the development of individuals and the engagement of the team
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.

• Membership of CITB Construction Skill Certification Scheme.
• NVQ Level 3 City & Guilds in electrical installation (or equivalent).
• City and Guilds 2391 Electrical inspection and testing or equivalent.
• Experience of supervising electrical installation work.
• Good understanding of BS 7671 electrical wiring regulations.
