Job summary

British American Tobacco UK invites applications for an undergraduate internship in Modern Oral Substrate Innovation (Materials & Product) based in Southampton for a 12‑month fixed‑term placement. High‑calibre chemistry or materials science students will work on evaluating novel materials and substrate technologies for oral nicotine pouches within a global R&D network.

You will design and execute lab experiments, develop prototypes, analyse data, and contribute to the innovation pipeline.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student studying Chemistry or Materials Science to join R&D in Southampton.
• Role focuses on evaluation, development and testing of novel materials and substrate technologies for oral nicotine pouches.
• Collaborate with internal R&D teams and external partners across BAT's global innovation network.

Responsibilities

• Support development and evaluation of substrate and product technologies for Modern Oral products.
• Plan and run laboratory experiments, prototyping activities and performance assessments.
• Collect, analyse and interpret technical data to support project decisions.
• Collaborate with internal R&D teams and external technology partners.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Support project planning and delivery against agreed objectives and timelines.
• Support innovation projects from concept generation through experimentation, testing and technical recommendation.
• Present findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
