Job summary

British American Tobacco UK is offering an undergraduate internship in Modern Oral Substrate Innovation in Southampton for 12 months. The role sits in Research & Development, focusing on evaluating novel materials and substrate technologies for oral nicotine pouches, with hands-on prototype work.

You will work with scientists, engineers and external partners, design lab experiments, generate technical evidence, and contribute to the innovation pipeline.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry or Materials Science (or related subject).
• 12-month undergraduate placement starting Sep 2027.
• Hands-on laboratory experience is beneficial.
• Ability to analyse data and translate findings into recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Support development and evaluation of novel substrate and product technologies for Modern Oral products.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments, prototyping activities and performance assessments.
• Collect, analyse and interpret technical data to support project decisions.
• Collaborate with internal R&D teams and external technology partners.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Support project planning and delivery against objectives and timelines.
• Support innovation projects from concept to testing and technical recommendations.
• Present findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
