Job summary

British American Tobacco UK offers a 12‑month undergraduate placement in Southampton within the Modern Oral Substrate Innovation team (Materials & Product). The role focuses on evaluating, developing and testing novel materials and substrate technologies for oral nicotine pouches, with hands‑on lab work and cross‑functional collaboration.

You will design experiments, develop prototypes, analyse data and present findings to stakeholders, with a mentor guiding your progression.

Qualifications

• Strong interest in materials, chemistry, product development or consumer products.
• Hands-on laboratory work and ability to design and interpret investigations.
• Experience with developing prototypes and testing materials or products.
• Ability to analyse data and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Support development and evaluation of novel substrate and product technologies for Modern Oral.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments, prototyping activities and performance assessments.
• Collect, analyse and interpret technical data to support project decisions.
• Collaborate with internal R&D teams and external technology partners.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Support project planning and delivery against objectives and timelines.
• Support innovation projects from concept to testing and technical recommendation.
• Present findings to technical and business stakeholders.
