Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Substation Project Supervisor to oversee on-site transmission construction projects across the South of London and surrounding regions. You will act as the on-site representative, coordinating contractors, suppliers and internal teams to ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance while delivering critical infrastructure improvements.

The role requires a strong background in utilities/infrastructure, CDM compliance, and stakeholder management.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ, ONC, or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering, construction or technical discipline.
• Proven experience as Site Supervisor/ Site Manager/ Project Lead within utilities, infrastructure, engineering or construction.
• Good understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.
• Experience working with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) requirements.
• Awareness of project, contract and stakeholder management principles.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Act as on-site representative for a range of transmission construction projects.
• Oversee the safe delivery of works including HV transformer and shunt reactor installations, cable replacements, cyber security upgrades, and protection and control system replacements.
• Ensure all site activities are delivered in compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Support project teams in meeting CDM regulations and industry best practice.
• Carry out site inspections, safety audits and quality assurance checks.
• Lead and coordinate site meetings with contractors, stakeholders and delivery teams.
• Support scheme development through site visits, reporting and collaboration with design teams.
• Assist with the procurement and management of plant, equipment and site resources.
• Build effective relationships with contractors and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Act as Principal Contractor Representative or Site Manager when required, providing additional leadership and development opportunities.
