Job summary

National Grid plc in London is seeking a hands-on Substation Project Engineer to lead a portfolio of asset replacement and new build projects across the region. The role offers hybrid working (home, office, and site) and requires strong PM, contractor management, and driving licence.

The successful candidate will oversee delivery teams, manage budgets, and ensure CDM compliance, safety, and quality across projects valued from £100k to £10m. A recognised PM qualification is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and contractor management skills.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts and CDM Regulations.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a portfolio of asset replacement and new build projects, typically valued between £100k and £10m.
• Deliver a wide range of schemes including HV transformer and shunt reactor installations, cable replacements, protection and control upgrades, and cyber security improvements.
• Oversee National Grid delivery teams and external contractors, ensuring safe and efficient execution in line with company policies and industry standards.
• Take ownership of CDM responsibilities, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Manage project financials, forecasting, and reporting throughout the full project lifecycle.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Work across the London region, with occasional travel and overnight stays as required.
