Job description

LILIAN BAYLIS TECHNOLOGY SCHOOL

“Outstanding in all aspects”

OfSTED 2023

Subject Leader: Computer Science & IT

Required from January 2027

Inner London Pay Scale

“This is a very happy and caring school. Leaders know pupils and their families well. One pupil, typical of many, described the school as ‘home.’” (OFSTED 2023)

Lilian Baylis Technology School is a mixed, 11-18, inner city school located in a new building at Vauxhall, London. We are a multicultural community school, which serves the local community, and we view this as one of our key strengths. We value the diversity of our school, and strive to ensure that our students feel represented, both at whole school level and within the curriculum.

In addition to this, we have great facilities for our students and teachers, including electronic whiteboards and visualisers in all rooms, as well as laptops for all staff. In addition, the school is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Education Technologists, so our support for the science curriculum and resources are excellent. Teachers also have a consistent room base for all their lessons, enabling them to make it a celebration for their subject and students.

Our students are well behaved and ambitious, and they also value the school. All visitors to the school always comment on the calm and productive atmosphere of lessons. Our last OfSTED inspection stated we were ‘outstanding in all aspects’.

In addition, student progress at both GCSE and A Level is excellent, and has been consistently so. In particular, we are highly effective at bridging the gaps between disadvantaged students and non-disadvantaged students. We run an extensive intervention programme, at Key Stage 3, which means students who have low prior attainment are able to work on “catching-up” with their peers.

At KS3 the Computing team has developed a diversified and forward-looking curriculum that is highly engaging for students. At KS4 we teach GCSE Computer Science and ICT BTEC, both of which are popular subjects. At KS5 we offer Computer Science A Level and BTEC ICT. Those that study Computer Science and ICT at Key Stage 5 generally go on to study a related degree at university, or gain a higher level apprenticeship. We also work with a charity called Day One, who actively support our IT students at KS5 to get into prestigious IT apprenticeships.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic colleague to join our Vocational Education Team as the Subject Leader for Computer Science team from January 2027. The successful candidate will lead the curriculum across all key stages, as well as Line Manage at least one other colleague in Computer Science. This is an exciting opportunity for both a teacher who is at the beginning of their leadership career, or a subject leader who is more established and looking for a fresh challenge. We offer a highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success. Our CPD provision is extensive and follows a research driven approach, which means that our teachers are at the leading edge of professional practice.

Application forms must be completed online by 10am Tuesday 17th November 2026. For an informal conversation or to arrange an informal visit contact Candice Nash, Director of HR & Operations, on candice.nash@lilianbaylis.com
