Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor to deliver long-term Local Authority highways projects across Yorkshire. The Highways Sub Agent will support delivery, supervise site teams, ensure safety, and maintain programme and budget.

Typical projects include highway improvements, resurfacing, drainage and traffic management. A degree in civil engineering and full UK driving licence are preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Site Engineer or Site Engineer within highways or civil engineering.
• Experience delivering Local Authority highways or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of NEC contracts.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the day-to-day delivery of highways projects.
• Supervise site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensure works are delivered safely and in accordance with programme and budget.
• Produce and review RAMS, permits and construction documentation.
• Monitor project progress and report on programme, quality and performance.
• Support procurement and commercial activities, including cost control and subcontract management.
• Coordinate temporary traffic management and site logistics.
• Maintain excellent relationships with Local Authority clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with NEC contracts, health & safety legislation and quality standards.
• Identify and resolve technical and operational issues on site.

Are you an experienced Sub Agent looking to work on long-term Local Authority highways projects across Yorkshire?

We're recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a range of highways improvement and maintenance schemes for Local Authority clients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable business with a strong pipeline of secured work and genuine opportunities for career progression.

You'll support the successful delivery of multiple highways projects, working alongside Project Managers, Site Agents and commercial teams to ensure schemes are completed safely, on time and within budget.

Typical Projects

• Highway improvement schemes
• Road widening and junction improvements
• Resurfacing and carriageway maintenance
• Drainage and highways infrastructure
• Footways and cycleways
• Section 278 & Section 38 works
• Public realm and active travel schemes
• Traffic management projects

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Site Engineer or Site Engineer within highways or civil engineering.
• Experience delivering Local Authority highways or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of NEC contracts.
• Knowledge of highways construction, drainage, surfacing and traffic management.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar.
• SMSTS.
• CSCS Card.
• Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC).
• NRSWA Supervisor.
• First Aid at Work.
