Overview
Studio AKA is hiring a full-time Studio & HR Manager to join its team in London.
We’re looking for a natural ‘doer’ who can spin multiple plates at once and who can act as an operational backbone and a cultural heart of the studio. The role involves the day-to-day running of the studio as well as the management of HR and studio events. You will play an integral role in creating and maintaining a thriving, positive, and efficient studio environment, supporting staff wellbeing, organising social events, and being a central point of contact for any queries from junior to senior staff, partners, clients, and suppliers. Essentially, you will be the linchpin that ensures the studio runs smoothly and happily. A minimum of three years previous experience in a similar role within animation or another creative environment is desirable.
Main responsibilities
HR
- Manage all core HR areas, including employee relations, HR admin and paperwork, training and development, recruitment, employee engagement, benefits and HR system (breathe HR).
- Oversee a recruitment and selection process including developing job descriptions, job advertisements, screening candidates, organising and running interviews, monitoring Talent@ inbox.
- Act as the point of contact for general day-to-day HR inquiries. Provide sound HR advice to employees, HODs and partners based on UK employment law and best HR practice.
- Advise, coach and support managers regarding employee relations matters including sickness absence and performance management, employee engagement and retention, mental health, rewards & recognition, growth opportunities.
- HR compliance. Keep up to date with changes in employment law and amend the Staff Handbook and all policies and procedures to reflect these changes and ensure that the studio is operating within best guidelines.
- Act as a link between management and employees by handling questions and helping resolve work-related problems.
- Manage all people-related administration and internal records, including updating HRIS (breathe) with staff absence and sick leave, documents, job descriptions, spreadsheets and employee files. Prepare and draft HR documentation for both new and existing employees.
- Implement exciting and effective training initiatives including compliance training. Plan, organise and coordinate all training activities.
- Oversee the onboarding and offboarding process (PAYE and freelance).
- Track all probation periods and advise managers of probation dates.
- Manage annual review process. Sit in review meetings and assist with taking notes and ensure items raised are appropriately addressed and followed up in a timely manner. Maintain up to date records.
- Notify CFO of any payroll changes and amendments.
- Manage diversity, equality, and inclusion within the studio.
- Act as a first point of contact for staff mental health and wellbeing.
Studio operations
- Oversight and management of studio reception and Studio Assistant to ensure the day-to-day studio operations are running smoothly.
- Cover all reception duties and ensure essential services to the building are functioning, working with the CFO, COO and suppliers to address issues (fire alarm and safety, intruder alarm, keyholding, cleaning, lift maintenance, PAT testing, shutter maintenance and repairs).
- Liaise with residents regarding studio matters (parking, building works).
- Ensure employee birthdays/milestones are celebrated.
- Induct and guide all staff on health and safety measures in the studio; be the point of contact for health and safety concerns and ensure visitors follow safety procedures.
- Ensure essential training requirements for staff are booked (e.g., Fire Marshals / First Aid training / annual fire safety refreshers).
- Weekly fire alarm tests and annual evacuation drills.
- Organise and support studio events (screenings, parties, talks and other cultural initiatives).
- Support and assist production with organising and managing studio visits for students.
Requirements
- A minimum of three years previous experience in a similar role within animation or another creative environment.
- Knowledge of HR best practices, employment regulations, and Health & Safety is crucial.
- A positive, engaging and can-do attitude and a genuine love of people.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

- IT literacy for MS 365.
