This position reports to

LPG Chemicals & Refining Market Segment Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this newly created role, you will have the opportunity to spearhead the delivery of early Studies across all our target market segments. You will be building a newly formed team of experts, leveraging ABB’s capacity and expertise in electrical, automation, telecommunications, and digital solutions. You will work at the intersection of engineering & project execution, solutions & tech development, business development, and sales, exposed to the challenges and opportunities the energy industry faces. The work model for the role is hybrid from our St Neots location #LI-hybrid. This role contributes to the Energy Industries business in the UK and will be mainly accountable for:

  1. Contributing to identifying and defining technical challenges and opportunities for our customers, and scoping feasibility, concept, and design studies to address these.
  2. Undertaking studies and consulting assignments designing forward-looking solutions, guiding customer projects from feasibility phase through to FEED and final investment decisions.
  3. Advising on systems and technologies, and the associated technical sales strategy, crucial for the energy transition, such as hydrogen production, offshore wind, and renewable integration.
  4. Advising on systems and technologies related to our existing markets, where future upgrade programmes are required.
  5. Supporting ABB front end sales and marketing teams in customer and project sales pursuits.
  6. Leading and knowledge sharing within the team, providing support and direction for junior team members.
  7. Building the environment for effective and efficient Study Delivery through development of processes and procedures for delivery management.
  8. Managing resourcing of Studies, both from within the team and interfacing to our wider Operations and Technical Advisory capability.
  9. Liaising with PAEN Norway Studies Delivery Team.
  10. Providing technical oversight over our full portfolio of Studies.
  11. Working closely with Studies Sales to pursue opportunities.
  12. Working closely with our Capture Team Leads, to bridge the gap and own the technical strategy between Study delivery and Project pursuit.
  13. Leading recruitment efforts to grow the capacity and skillsets of the team.
Qualifications for the role
  • Experience in project engineering and design developments from all phases of large projects, with a particular passion for feasibility, concept development, and select phases.
  • Technical insight in electrical, controls, chemical, and/or systems engineering disciplines.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude, excelling at tackling new challenges and exploring solutions.
  • Domain expertise in renewable energy systems, such as offshore wind, hydrogen, or carbon capture is an advantage.
  • Systems thinking mindset, preferably with experience in applying systems engineering methodology.
  • Proven track record in leading technical teams and ability to collaborate across domains (multidisciplinary).
  • Excellent communication skills to convey results in a simple and understandable way both orally and in writing.
  • Keen interest and understanding of energy market changes due to the energy transition and new technologies.
  • Commercial awareness with experience in performing techno-economical evaluations.
