Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a confident and proactive Pastoral Mentor to join a supportive secondary school in Birmingham. You will work with Heads of Year and the pastoral team to support pupils with behaviour, engagement and wellbeing.

Ideal candidates will have experience with secondary pupils in UK schools or related settings, strong behaviour management skills, and the ability to build trusting relationships while upholding professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting secondary pupils with behaviour in UK schools or similar settings.
• Strong ability to build trust and rapport with young people.
• Professional boundaries when dealing with students and parents.
• Organised and reliable with accurate record-keeping.
• Awareness of safeguarding procedures and DBS checks.
• Calm, patient, and resilient in busy pastoral environments.

Responsibilities

• Support Heads of Year with day-to-day pastoral needs of pupils.
• Respond to behaviour incidents and manage disruptions in lessons.
• Build trusting relationships with students while maintaining boundaries.
• Help pupils reflect on behaviour and make positive choices.
• Handle challenging situations calmly and confidently.
• Record and report behaviour incidents using school systems.
• Contact parents regarding behaviour, attendance, or pastoral concerns.
• Complete admin duties related to behaviour, attendance and pupil support.
• Support pupils during reflection, intervention, or time away from lessons.
• Communicate effectively with teaching staff, senior leaders, and families.
• Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.
