Job summary

Vision for Education Ltd is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Mentor to support pupils at a school based in Birmingham. This non-teaching role focuses on pupil wellbeing, personal development and engagement with education within a school environment.

The successful candidate will provide pastoral guidance, build strong relationships with students and collaborate with staff to promote positive behaviour, attendance and progression.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people in schools or youth settings.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient.
• Ability to manage challenging situations calmly.
• Understanding safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• Team player within school support staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group pastoral support to pupils.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and act as a consistent source of guidance.
• Support pupils with emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
• Help manage challenging behaviour and promote positive choices.
• Encourage attendance, engagement and participation in school life.
• Identify barriers to learning and work with teaching staff and pastoral teams to address them.
• Support pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, concerns and interventions.
• Follow school safeguarding policies and report concerns appropriately.
