Job summary

The King Alfred School in Somerset seeks a Pastoral Support Officer to work with pastoral leads and Heads of Year, fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment. You will support student behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, acting as a visible contact across the school and collaborating with attendance and safeguarding teams.

Your role involves liaising with parents and external agencies, keeping confidential records, and participating in intervention meetings to enhance pastoral processes.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting students in a school setting or similar environment.
• Strong IT skills with databases and office software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and responding to student-centred concerns, gathering incident evidence and delivering tailored support.
• Maintaining a supportive presence and assisting teaching colleagues in managing classrooms.
• Communicating with parents, carers and external agencies to support positive outcomes.
• Maintaining confidential records and logs; attending intervention meetings.
• Assisting safeguarding processes and contributing to continuous pastoral improvements.
