About West Dean

West Dean is a unique place to work and visit, combining an internationally recognised centre for arts, design, craft and conservation with award-winning gardens, historic collections and a working estate.

Our Bloomsbury campus is home to the prestigious KLC School of Design, offering students inspiring studio spaces in the heart of London, surrounded by world-class museums, galleries and theatres.

Together, our Sussex and London campuses bring together education, heritage, creativity, hospitality and visitor experiences. Working at West Dean means joining a community that values creativity, craftsmanship, sustainability and inclusivity.

About the Role

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Student Welcome Officer to join our Campus Services team at our Bloomsbury campus.

As the first point of contact for students, tutors, conference delegates and visitors, you will play an important role in creating a warm, welcoming and professional environment. You will ensure that everyone arriving at the campus receives a friendly welcome and the information and support they need.

This is a varied, customer-focused role combining front-of-house responsibilities with administration and practical support. You will respond to enquiries, assist with student and visitor needs, maintain accurate records, process payments and help ensure communal and student areas remain welcoming and well presented.

You will also support the smooth day-to-day running of the campus, working closely with colleagues across Campus Services and other teams. The role includes responsibilities relating to health and safety, emergency procedures and incident reporting, so confidence, reliability and the ability to remain calm under pressure are important.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in delivering high standards of customer service and would like to be part of an exciting new campus environment in the heart of London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage front-of-house enquiries in person, by telephone and email, providing accurate information and assistance.
  • Respond positively and professionally to customer queries and concerns, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Undertake day-to-day administration, including maintaining records, correspondence and campus information.
  • Support the smooth running and presentation of student and communal areas.
  • Process payments and support retail facilities in line with established procedures.
  • Manage mail and lost property appropriately.
  • Maintain customer records in accordance with GDPR and organisational procedures.
  • Provide basic administrative support for library facilities.
  • Support campus health and safety, fire and emergency procedures, including assisting with evacuations and maintaining relevant records.
  • Complete required training and contribute positively to the wider Campus Services team.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
About You

We are looking for someone with previous customer service and administrative experience who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing a friendly, professional service.

  • An understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
  • A professional, approachable and confident manner.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, visitors and external contacts.
  • A strong team-working approach.

Previous experience working in a data-sensitive, customer-focused environment would be desirable, as would relevant qualifications.
