Job summary

CVS Vets is seeking a Student Veterinary Nurse to support our team across multiple practice sites, delivering compassionate nursing care and assisting RVNs and Vets in daily treatment.

This fixed term contract offers 40 hours per week with a Monday–Friday pattern and scheduled weekend/bank holiday shifts, providing hands-on experience in a busy veterinary group.

Qualifications

  • Background in animal welfare is essential, including feeding, cleaning, medicating, and handling.
  • Experience in a veterinary environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients
  • Assist Vets and Nurses in animal restraint during treatments
  • Clean, walk, and feed patients
  • Prepare emergency and operating facilities
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Run internal lab samples
  • Answer emergency calls
  • Cover the receptionist desk, including handling queries, booking appointments, and processing payments

Contract: Fixed Term Contract

Hours: 40 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, on a varied work pattern which includes a share in the Weekend and Bank Holiday rota

About the Role:

As a Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), you will play a critical role in our outstanding veterinary practice. You'll support our team of qualified RVNs and Vets in delivering exceptional care to our patients, all while working alongside a fantastic team.

Who We're Looking For:
  • Excellent communication skills with strong empathy
  • Superior customer service abilities with experience in public interactions
  • Background in animal welfare is essential, including feeding, cleaning, medicating, and handling, with a deep understanding of animal welfare needs
  • Experience in a veterinary environment is highly desirable
  • A Full UK driving licence is needed as you will working across multiple sites
  • Resilience and the capacity to handle distressing and emotional situations
  • Positive attitude and stellar teamwork skills
Required Qualifications for college enrolment:
  • Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, and a Science subject
    OR
  • An animal nursing assistant (ANA) or veterinary care assistant (VCA) qualification, plus functional skills level two in Application of Number and Communication
