Job summary

CVS Vets Maidenhead is seeking a Weekend Veterinary Patient Care Assistant to join our team. Location Summerleaze Road, Maidenhead. This permanent role is 19 hours per week with Saturdays and Sundays, 09:00–19:30, and may allow job sharing.

You will support RVNs and Vets with nursing tasks, animal handling, and basic care, while delivering friendly customer service. CVS Vets offers employee discounts on pet care, additional leave, and wellbeing support as part of our supportive practice network.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service and handling emotional situations with kindness and professionalism.
• Strong communication skills and genuine empathy.
• Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning and handling.

Role Details:

Location: Summerleaze Road, Maidenhead, SL6 8EW

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 19 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Every Saturday and Sunday, working 09.00 - 19.30. We would be willing to consider a job share so do let us know on your application!

Salary: Will be paid at NMW

About the role:

The Patient Care Assistant position is crucial in any veterinary practice. You’ll support our skilled RVN's and Vets in providing exceptional care to our animal patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing nursing care to our patients
• Assisting Vets and Nurses with animal restraint
• Walking, feeding, and cleaning patients
• Preparing emergency and operating facilities
• Performing general cleaning and maintenance
• Running internal lab samples
• Answering emergency calls
• Supporting the reception team when needed, including booking appointments and processing payments

Who We're Looking For:

• Skilled in customer service and public interaction
• Resilience and the ability to handle emotional situations with kindness and professionalism
• Strong communication skills paired with genuine empathy
• Experienced in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, and handling – this is essential!
• Resilient and capable of handling emotional situations
• Positive and a team player
• Preferably have experience in a veterinary environment
