Job summary

Leeds City College is recruiting a Student Support Coordinator to join the Visual Arts team at Quarry Hill Campus. You will deliver a high-quality pastoral service to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and progress through their studies.

Working with curriculum teams, you will promote wellbeing, support attendance and retention, and act as a safeguarding contact while building strong relationships with learners, tutors and external agencies to ensure a safe, inclusive learning

Qualifications

• Level 2 Safeguarding qualification or willingness to achieve within one year of appointment.
• Substantial experience supporting students who have additional support needs or who may be vulnerable.
• English and Maths at Level 2.
• Experience of working with young people in an educational or support setting.
• Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing and student support practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective professional relationships with learners, curriculum staff, college support teams and external agencies.
• A proactive, organised and student-centred approach, with a commitment to supporting positive learner outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to support student success, attendance, retention and achievement by promoting wellbeing and helping to remove barriers to learning.
• Provide high-quality pastoral support to learners across the department, particularly those who may be vulnerable or require additional support to engage successfully with their studies.
• Deliver timely and effective short-term interventions, supporting students to develop strategies that enable them to remain engaged and make positive progress.
• Signpost students to appropriate internal and external services, ensuring they receive the specialist support they need at the right time.
• Act as a key safeguarding contact within the department, recording and reporting safeguarding concerns using appropriate systems and ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students, curriculum tutors, department leaders, support services and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
• Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, respected and able to succeed.
• Undertake relevant training, including safeguarding, first aid and mental health awareness, in line with the requirements of the role.
