Job description

Permanent, Full Time

Student Services at Kingston College supports learners at each stage of their journey from pre-entry to post exit. We have a student-oriented culture and put learners at the heart of everything we do. We work together to ensure student success and satisfaction.

As a Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for the Student Support Service, managing the Safeguarding Coordinator, a team of Advisers, and Service Administration staff. Your role involves supervising, delivering, and monitoring cross-college support to ensure the safety and well-being of students, and ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and best practices. You’ll collaborate with the Service Head, Safeguarding Officers, college staff, and external agencies to promote student well-being and safeguarding awareness, ensuring staff and students understand their duties and referral procedures.

We seek a highly organized, dynamic, and proactive Team Leader with a relevant degree or equivalent (such as Psychology, Social Science, Social Work, Youth & Community, Counselling, Teaching, or Management). You should have leadership and management experience, experience with complex decision-making, and the ability to deputize. Extensive practitioner experience in safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults is essential, along with a thorough understanding of risk assessment and crisis intervention strategies.

Experience working in an education setting (or similar) and improving standards is important. You should have a proven track record of working effectively with external agencies and staff across an organization to provide holistic support, enrichment, and signposting services to enhance student wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be eligible for any salary increase resulting from the annual cost of living review in the upcoming academic year.

Closing date for completed applications is 21st May 2025.

The benefits package includes 37 days of generous annual leave, up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year, 5 wellbeing days, an excellent pension scheme (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidized sports facilities, professional development opportunities, and a salary sacrifice cycle scheme.

South Thames Colleges Group is an equal opportunities employer committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

Successful candidates will undergo due diligence checks including an enhanced DBS, references, an online search, and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and encourage applications regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and marriage or civil partnerships, as per the Public Sector Equality Duty of the Equality Act 2010.

The South Thames Colleges Group comprises Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College, and South Thames College, which merged on 1 August 2017.
