Job summary

Randstad Education is partnering with an established Further Education provider in Bromley to recruit a Student Progress & Pastoral Mentor on a term-time-only contract. You will lead weekly group tutorials, manage a large pastoral caseload, and guide post-16 learners toward higher education or employment.

You will support safeguarding, study skills, careers guidance, and wellbeing, working closely with curriculum teams and external partners to remove barriers to learning.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy (essential).
• A relevant degree (e.g., Youth Work) or previous FE experience desirable.
• Experience running group workshops and delivering 1-to-1 support to young people.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging weekly group tutorials covering safeguarding, study skills, pastoral themes, careers, and social action projects.
• Oversee a pastoral caseload averaging 15 tutorial groups (approx. 300 post-16 students).
• Conduct individual 1-to-1 progress meetings to establish SMART goals and track student achievements.
• Coordinate attendance and behaviour interventions with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.
• Act as the initial point of contact for student welfare and referrals to safeguarding teams.
• Guide students through UCAS applications, Gatsby benchmarks, enrichment projects, and work experience tracking.
• Attend progress reviews, parents' evenings, disciplinary meetings, and key college events.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for an energetic educator or youth worker dedicated to making a measurable impact on young people's lives. Acting as the primary pastoral guide for post-16 learners, you will lead weekly group sessions, track academic targets, and ensure every student is fully supported to achieve their potential and progress into higher education or employment.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications & Knowledge: Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy (essential). A relevant degree (such as Youth Work) or previous experience working within Further Education is desirable.
• Experience & Skills: Proven track record of running group workshops and delivering 1-to-1 support to young people. Strong communication skills, calm authority under pressure, and an empathetic approach to supporting diverse student needs.
• Commute & Availability: Ability to commute reliably to Bromley, London, with a flexible approach to working hours during major college calendar events.
