Job summary

HARLOW COLLEGE is seeking a Learning Support Practitioner to assist learners with SEND needs within our Further Education campus in Harlow. The role provides support to help learners access content, complete tasks and participate in college life.

You will contribute to personalised support plans, work with staff and families, and help learners build independence while safeguarding welfare and promoting dignity.

Qualifications

  • Desire to work with young people with SEND needs.
  • Minimum Maths & English at Grade 4/Grade C.
  • Highly motivated, organized, able to work autonomously and calmly under pressure, and able to communicate well with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provide learning support to students to help them fulfil their potential, clarify content, and differentiate materials.
  • Provide personal and intimate care support to learners as identified in their plans, including toileting and hygiene while promoting independence.
  • Collaborate with parents/carers, healthcare professionals and staff to ensure care needs are met safely.
  • Support during assessments, examinations, revision sessions, inductions, visits and employability activities.
  • Safeguard the welfare of vulnerable adults and young persons you are responsible for, or meet.
  • Keep accurate records of learning support and course documentation in line with college systems.

Our team offers outstanding levels of support and coaching across our mainstream campus to enable learners with additional needs to meet their outcomes and fulfil their potential on their course. The role offers you the opportunity to support and learn how the further education sector works, working with many different subject areas facilitating and advocating for the students and offering personalised support and coaching for SEND students.

What the role entails
  • To provide learning support to students as appropriate, to enable them to fulfil their potential to achieve e.g. clarifying content, making simple notes, differentiating materials, improving their ability to manage their own learning needs.
  • To provide personal and intimate care support to learners, as identified in their support plan, risk assessment, EHCP or individual care plan, including toileting, dressing, feeding, eating and drinking, personal hygiene, mobility and medical needs, while promoting independence, dignity and respect.
  • Working closely with parents/carers, healthcare professionals, SEND staff, and teaching colleagues to ensure learners' care needs are met effectively and safely.
  • To provide support during assessments, examinations, revision sessions, induction activities, educational visits, work experience placements, college visits, and employability activities.
  • To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable adults and young persons you are responsible for, or come into contact with.
  • To keep accurate records of (learning) support and course documentation provided in line with college systems
What we are looking for

You will have a desire to work with young people with SEND needs and have strong administrative and organisational skills. You will be educated to a minimum Maths & English at Grade 4/Grade C.
