Job summary

St John Bosco Arts College is seeking an enthusiastic Student and Family Engagement Officer to join the Attendance and Pastoral team. You will support students and their families to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement with school.

Working with the Pastoral Lead and external agencies, you will identify barriers to attendance, undertake home visits, and develop action plans to help students attend regularly and succeed.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisation and ICT skills, and the ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people, families and other professionals.
• Experience of working with children, young people, families and external services, together with an understanding of school attendance.
• A UK driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor attendance and identify patterns of absence and lateness.
• Make early contact with students and families where attendance is a concern.
• Undertake home visits and meetings with parents/carers to provide practical support.
• Develop strategies and action plans to improve attendance.
• Support students returning to school following periods of absence.
• Work collaboratively with pastoral, safeguarding and external agencies to support vulnerable students and their families.
