Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is helping a highly regarded school in Kensington recruit an Attendance and Welfare Officer to support student wellbeing and attendance.

The role involves monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, liaising with parents and carers, maintaining accurate records and coordinating welfare interventions while safeguarding and promoting a positive school culture. This on-site position requires empathy, discretion and strong organisational skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in attendance, pastoral support or student welfare is advantageous.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents and colleagues.
• Confidence using databases, spreadsheets and school management information systems.
• Understanding safeguarding, confidentiality and accurate record-keeping.
• Calm, professional and empathetic approach to challenging conversations.
• Legal right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily attendance and punctuality, identifying patterns of absence and persistent lateness.
• Contact parents and carers regarding unexplained absences and attendance concerns.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and prepare reports for pastoral teams and senior leadership.
• Work with students and families to identify barriers to attendance and agree appropriate support strategies.
• Support attendance meetings, welfare checks and follow-up actions in line with school procedures.
• Liaise with safeguarding leads, pastoral staff and external agencies where concerns require further intervention.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure all records are accurate, up to date and handled appropriately.
• Promote a positive attendance culture and encourage students to engage consistently with their education.
