Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for a Laboratory Technician to support the operation of the Structures laboratory to facilitate engineering research. This includes designing and constructing test rigs, preparing test specimens, planning instrumentation, and basic machining and fabrication.

The post holder will ensure all work is conducted safely and in accordance with directives.

This is a full-time, open-ended position.

You will work within the Structures laboratories to support experimental projects, including design, construction, assembly, and operation.

You will assemble components from small detailed parts to large-scale test specimens for evaluation in test rigs.

Providing support and advice to academics and researchers, you will plan and prioritize work activities with support from the Laboratory Manager.

You will also provide support using traditional and modern workshop skills for production and modification of laboratory equipment.

• An HND/ONC or equivalent in engineering is essential, along with experience in a university workshop/laboratory environment.
• Practical experience with traditional engineering machines and hand tools, capable of working from engineering drawings and instructions.
• Ability to organize workload from a prescribed list of tasks and work flexibly with various people, respecting deadlines.
