Duties/Roles:
- Provides support for Flagship handovers involving nations in the Standing Naval Forces (SNF). This may include deployment to staging locations, working in confined spaces, and lifting heavy weights.
- Installs, configures, and sets-to-work servers on board NATO flagships.
- Responsible for daily system administration of hardware and software of supported systems.
- Executes preventive maintenance plans under senior guidance.
- Prepares, stores, and updates technical and service documentation related to assigned systems.
- Reports Configuration Control data accurately and promptly.
- Provides technical guidance to other technicians regarding hardware and software.
- Leads troubleshooting efforts on assigned systems.
- Assists with system fault resolution for the Centralised Service Desk.
- Provides technical advice to CSU Northwood staff on supported systems.
- Performs beta testing of new software versions and provides feedback to the System Manager.
- Maintains liaison with other technicians and engineers in CSU Northwood.
- Stays updated on relevant technological developments.
- Performs other duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:
Mandatory:
- Senior Technician with experience in shore-based system administration for command and control Information Systems supporting Maritime HQ (MARCOM) and NATO flagships, including maritime C2, Air C2, and situational awareness tools.
- Minimum 5 years experience in administering, testing, and deploying applications at server and user levels.
- At least 5 years recent experience with Windows and UNIX applications in large-scale service environments.
- Knowledge of database principles, database administration, and SQL.
- Experience in Incident and Problem Management.
- Experience supporting customer environments.
- Training or experience with Maritime C2 Systems.
- Good knowledge of IT hardware and peripherals like printers and scanners.
- Experience with Configuration Management and Service Asset Management.
- Knowledge of current Windows, UNIX/Linux operating systems, and desktop applications.
- Experience working in international military and civilian environments.
- Understanding of NATO structures, including ACO and ACT.
- ITIL Foundation certification or knowledge.
- Knowledge of mainstream ICT.
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of post-related experience or secondary education with 5+ years of experience.
