Duties/Roles:
- Provide support for Flagship handovers for nations involved in the Standing Naval Forces (SNF), including deployment to staging locations and working in confined spaces, with heavy lifting as needed.
- Install, configure, and commission servers on board NATO flagships.
- Manage daily system operations and maintenance of hardware and software for supported systems.
- Implement preventive maintenance plans under senior guidance.
- Maintain and update technical and service documentation for assigned systems.
- Report Configuration Control data accurately and promptly.
- Offer technical guidance to other technicians on hardware and software issues.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts on assigned systems.
- Assist with system fault resolution for the Centralised Service Desk.
- Provide technical advice to CSU Northwood staff on supported systems.
- Perform beta testing of new system software versions and provide feedback.
- Coordinate with other technicians and engineers within CSU Northwood.
- Stay informed about technological developments relevant to the role.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:
Mandatory:
- Senior Technician experienced in shore-based system administration for command and control information systems supporting Maritime Command HQ and NATO flagships, including Maritime C2, Air C2, and situational awareness tools.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in application administration, testing, and deployment at server and user levels.
- At least 5 years' recent experience with Windows and UNIX systems in a large-scale service environment.
- Knowledge of database principles, with experience in database administration and SQL.
- Experience in Incident and Problem Management.
- Experience working in a customer support environment.
- Training or experience with Maritime C2 Systems.
- Good working knowledge of IT hardware, printers, and scanners.
- Experience with Configuration Management and Service Asset Management.
- Knowledge of current Windows, UNIX/Linux operating systems, and common desktop applications.
- Experience working in an international military and civilian environment.
- Knowledge of NATO structures and responsibilities, including ACO and ACT.
- ITIL Foundation certification or knowledge.
- General ICT knowledge.
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of related experience, or secondary education with 5+ years of experience.
