Job description

Location: Northwood, United Kingdom.

Period: 836 days (starting on 21 Jul. 2025).

Deadline: 09 Jun. 2025.

Duties/Roles:

• Provide support for Flagship handovers for nations involved in the Standing Naval Forces (SNF), including deployment to staging locations and working in confined spaces, with heavy lifting as needed.
• Install, configure, and commission servers on board NATO flagships.
• Manage daily system operations and maintenance of hardware and software for supported systems.
• Implement preventive maintenance plans under senior guidance.
• Maintain and update technical and service documentation for assigned systems.
• Report Configuration Control data accurately and promptly.
• Offer technical guidance to other technicians on hardware and software issues.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts on assigned systems.
• Assist with system fault resolution for the Centralised Service Desk.
• Provide technical advice to CSU Northwood staff on supported systems.
• Perform beta testing of new system software versions and provide feedback.
• Coordinate with other technicians and engineers within CSU Northwood.
• Stay informed about technological developments relevant to the role.
• Perform other duties as required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:

Mandatory:

• Senior Technician experienced in shore-based system administration for command and control information systems supporting Maritime Command HQ and NATO flagships, including Maritime C2, Air C2, and situational awareness tools.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in application administration, testing, and deployment at server and user levels.
• At least 5 years' recent experience with Windows and UNIX systems in a large-scale service environment.
• Knowledge of database principles, with experience in database administration and SQL.
• Experience in Incident and Problem Management.
• Experience working in a customer support environment.
• Training or experience with Maritime C2 Systems.
• Good working knowledge of IT hardware, printers, and scanners.
• Experience with Configuration Management and Service Asset Management.
• Knowledge of current Windows, UNIX/Linux operating systems, and common desktop applications.
• Experience working in an international military and civilian environment.
• Knowledge of NATO structures and responsibilities, including ACO and ACT.
• ITIL Foundation certification or knowledge.
• General ICT knowledge.
• Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of related experience, or secondary education with 5+ years of experience.
