Job summary

Laing O'Rourke seeks a Product Development Engineer to blend civil/structural engineering with innovation in its Technology & Innovation team. You will help translate ideas into practical, scalable construction solutions and drive product development for advanced manufacturing and clean energy infrastructure.

The role spans design, testing and validation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, innovative reinforcement and modern construction concepts for major projects.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Knowledge of relevant design codes and standards.
• Excellent understanding of structural behaviour and first-principles engineering.
• A passion for innovation, continuous improvement and solving complex technical challenges.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative permanent works design solutions that support advanced manufacturing, particularly preassembled reinforcement cage solutions.
• Lead and support technology and innovation initiatives that align design and detailing with advanced manufacturing requirements.
• Work with Design Automation and Configuration teams to improve design efficiency, consistency and repeatability.
• Identify and develop new product opportunities for the Energy sector, ensuring solutions are compliant, practical and manufacturable.
• Provide early-stage engineering input to embed Modern Methods of Construction into future green energy projects.
• Deliver structural engineering expertise across a range of Technology & Innovation activities.
• Optimise permanent and temporary works solutions to support advanced manufacturing facilities and project outcomes.
• Build strong relationships across clients, designers, suppliers and internal teams to help drive innovation adoption.

What we're looking for

Essential criteria

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineeringor livedexperience.

Desirable criteria

• Experience in product development, innovation or research and development environments.
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods,prefabricationand product-based engineering approaches.
• Temporary Works design experience withinconstruction ormajor infrastructure projects.
• Progress towards professional chartership with ICE,IStructEor a similar institution.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and helping shape new ways of working.
• Enthusiasm foremergingtechnologies and turning ideas into practical outcomes.
